Soft buns rolled with cinnamon sugar, baked until golden, and enjoyed warm from the oven. The dough is enriched with milk and butter, so it stays soft, and the filling needs only cinnamon, sugar, and soft butter.

Ingredients

  • For the dough: 450 g plain flour
  • 7 g instant yeast
  • 250 ml warm milk
  • 50 g butter, melted
  • 50 g sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • For the filling: 60 g soft butter
  • 80 g sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Method

  1. Mix the flour and yeast in a bowl. Add the warm milk, melted butter, sugar, egg, and salt, and mix to a soft dough.
  2. Knead for 8 minutes until smooth, cover, and leave to rise for 1 hour until doubled.
  3. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 40 cm by 30 cm. Spread with the soft butter, then scatter evenly with the sugar mixed with cinnamon.
  4. Roll up tightly from a long edge, then cut into 8 even pieces with a sharp knife.
  5. Place the pieces cut-side up in a greased baking dish, cover, and leave to rise for 30 minutes.
  6. Heat the oven to 190 degrees C (170 degrees C fan). Bake for 20 to 22 minutes until golden and risen.
  7. Cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Tip

Use dental floss or a sharp serrated knife to cut the rolled dough cleanly without squashing the swirl.
